What is economic nexus?

Economic nexus is a legal connection between a seller and a State that triggers a sales tax obligation, created solely by sales volume. After the 2018 South Dakota v. Wayfair Supreme Court ruling, most States set a threshold of $100,000 in annual revenue or 200 transactions. Once you exceed that threshold, you are required to collect and remit sales tax in that State.
